GLOBAL HEALTH PROBLEM: OBESITY
Basically, obesity, which is considered as a complex an multifactorial disease which affects the health negatively, is an extreme fat tissue increase in the body. Today, it is the second most important cause of preventable death after smoking. It reduces the quality of life by causing many health problems such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, especially type 2 diabetes and prediabetes, hypertension (HT), hyperlipidemia (HL), cerebrovascular disease, various cancers, obstructive sleep-apnea syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, gastroesophageal reflux, biliary tract disease,polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, osteoarthrosis and depression. In 1998, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that obesity will be the most important health problem of the 21st century. According to the latest data of the World Health Organization, 1.9 billion people are overweight and 650 million are obese in the world in 2016. In Turkey, obesity has become a problem which threats the people’s lives and gets more and more common as a result of the fast change of the life style. According to the epidemiologic studies conducted in Turkey, it is stated that one out of every three people is obese.
According to the Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Society, Turkey is the country in which the adult obesity is seen the the most among European countries.
